Project Description:

The purpose of this project is to design a large-scale pyrolysis process to transform waste biomass produced by Oregon Dulse Seaweed (taxonomically develeara mollis) to generate biochar, in an effort to sequester carbon and improve the internal carbon economy on-site across all operations. Our sponsor currently has two facilities on the Oregon Coast, and is in the process of adding an operation to extract protein from a specific strain of fast-growing dulse seaweed. The resulting biomass after protein extraction is designated as waste; our goal is to produce a value-added byproduct via the pyrolysis of this leftover mass while simultaneously reducing site emissions.
