Project Description:

The team was tasked with designing a two-axis motion stage to carry a laser head for OSU Associate Professor Dr. Burak Sencer to use in his research laboratory. The motion stage was required to have a minimum displacement of 10 mm in both axes, have a positioning resolution of ~1 micrometer, and incorporate optical laser sensors for closed-loop motion control. The team made use of precision grade linear guides for axis motion guidance and voice coil actuators (VCAs) for motion control of the stage. In addition, the team designed a machine enclosure featuring laser-safe acrylic viewing windows for user safety.
