Project Description:

The City of Tumalo has requested KERNS Engineering (Group TL3) to provide engineering services for an intersection redesign project in Tumalo, Oregon, where U.S. 20 intersects with O.B. Riley Road and Cook Avenue. The current intersection is unsignalized and has a history of vehicle collisions and unsafe transportation systems. The primary objective will be to increase community connectivity and reduce the number of vehicle collisions. A signalized intersection and a roundabout were evaluated based on the main objectives to ultimately choose a final intersection design. The engineering disciplines on this project include transportation, geotechnical, and water resource engineers and will work together to ensure a sufficient intersection design that mitigates area flooding and pavement deterioration. The primary stakeholders of this project include the residents of Tumalo and the City of Tumalo. The project will be designed in favor of the residents and to improve the transportation infrastructure.

The final intersection design will include a multi-lane roundabout with a multi-use path, pavement designs, a stormwater management plan, and an underpass for pedestrians and bicyclists. This work was completed and designed according to the Oregon Department of Transportation standards and the City of Tumalo guidelines.
