Project Description:
The Plastic to Fuel project explores a bench scale batch pyrolysis reactor which can convert waste plastic to diesel. Our goal is to convert plastics that are their end of use which would not otherwise be mechanically recycled to a usable liquid product. The major application of this process is in island and rural communities which have an accumulation of plastic waste and limited access to diesel products. The current reactor prototype is capable of converting a kilogram of plastic to a liter of diesel product with a 65-80% yield depending on the plastic type and degradation of the material.
