College of Engineering Unit:
The team at Radiant Engineering Solutions (RES) is proud to share the following design proposal for the new Chemeketa Community College Agricultural Complex to be constructed at 4000 Lancaster Dr. NE, Salem, OR. The primary goal of the Chemeketa project is to provide a safe, welcoming gathering space that inspires a feeling of community and reflects the culture of the Willamette Valley. To achieve this goal, RES engineers focused on creating open, flexible spaces that could be used for a variety of functions and utilize culturally relevant materials and concepts such as green infrastructure and locally sourced mass timber. The resulting design includes a glulam and mass plywood panel structure carried by isolated square footings. A bioswale and two infiltration gardens to divert and treat the stormwater onsite. A daylighting and electric lighting design solution for the flexible hub lounge space and the task-oriented general-purpose classrooms.
