Project Description:

An eco-friendly and user-friendly solution to current disposable cautery pen designs. This device will make use of a scoring pattern perforated along the circumference of the pen’s housing, aiding in the removal of the pen’s internals. It will be made up of a biodegradable cPLA plastic, reducing the single-use plastic impact of the device and features a reliable cap over the contaminated pen tip which is expected to contain the filament when breaking the pen, greatly reducing contamination.

Current method of disposing of cautery pen. Here, you can see the excess plastic waste and possible safety issues with removing the filament with a secondary device.
