Project Description:

The engineering team, Power 5, is determined to satisfy their client's concerns regarding the Tumalo intersection on U.S. 20. The community of Tumalo and ODOT, voiced distress regarding the poorly structured junction on the Tumalo intersection that causes numerous accidents. The team consists of one geotechnical, one transportation, and two hydraulic engineers. Power 5 will establish goals and assign responsibilities to each team member based on their discipline to resolve the problems that Tumalo experiences. The re-design will consist of a four-legged multi-lane roundabout with two 15-foot circulatory lanes. A 4-foot landscape buffer and a 10-foot shared path are implemented around the intersection. Cement paving will be used for the roadway to ensure longevity. Bioswales have been calculated and will be placed in the landscape buffers at all four corners of the intersection to drain and treat the stormwater runoff from the roadway.
