This display shows the design process used by Team MC1 for the Mill City Falls Park improvement project. The site is located in Mill City, about 30 miles east of Salem, Oregon. The population is around 2,000 people, and it is known as being an old timber town. In 2020, the Beachie Creek fire severely affected the town, destroying a historic home. Due to this terrible event, the Federal Emergency Management Agency granted emergency dollars to be used towards a public improvement project. The Mill City Falls Park was the area chosen to receive the funding.
The project scope includes improvements pertaining to water resources, lighting, geotechnical analysis, and transportation. Pathway improvements, retaining wall implementation, irrigation and storm water runoff designs, and improved lighting are all within the project scope. The overall goal for this project was to create a community space that is user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing through efficient and safe engineering designs. Team MC1’s designs strive to be cohesive and fall within the client’s budget.
