College of Engineering Unit:
The Chemeketa Community College Ag. Complex aims to promote a safe, approachable, and welcoming environment to serve the communities of Marion, Polk, and Yamhill counties. Located in Salem, Oregon, this project site provides a space for students and faculty from the surrounding areas to collaborate and learn in an inclusive environment. With a direct connection to nature and daylight, the building will provide inspiration for the topics of instruction provided in and around campus. Innovative resources are a vital inclusion to the community, and this project aims to provide exactly that. With the collaboration of a multi-disciplinary project team, the ability to create a successful place for members of the community to learn and grow in their chosen fields is certainly attainable. CA3 Engineering aims to maximize the versatility of the space to serve its role both as a learning facility and a hub for the community. Additional project goals include achieving high energy efficiency, minimizing construction, and operating costs, and designing a structural system that optimizes space.
CA3 Engineering will specialize in three main disciplines to accomplish the goals and objectives for the project. The structural Engineers will pick a system that meets all loading requirements for the structure while keeping in mind the goals of sustainability and maximizing the intended use of the space. Architectural engineers specializing in lighting will develop an electric lighting system that ensures suitable illumination levels and visual comfort for occupants. Geotechnical engineers will design a footing and foundation system that allows for a secure base of the structure to ensure the safety of all individuals in and around the building.
