Project Description:

The Next Computer Desktop. A workspace that combines all your files and the internet together to increase your workflow.

A BRAND-NEW DESKTOP EXPERIENCE

  • The modern-day desktop experience has a fragmentation problem. Why is it that a user must go to so many different places online just to find the content they need to work on?

  • Parchment aims to solve this problem by overlaying your local file system with internet content allowing you to access and organize everything you need to be more productive and better interact with your desktop.

  • Parchment features customization and gives the users complete freedom over their files to organize and access files in whatever way works best for them.

HOW PARCHMENT WORKS

  • Forms OS: This base layer acts as the core of Parchment, providing essential filesystem and networking capabilities while managing interactions with the conventional filesystem and in-memory data.

  • Press and Frame: Press operates as a Node server, mediating data exchange with Forms and processing requests, while Frame connects to the internet browser to merge and load web content.

  • Quill and Page: Quill serves as the customization tool for the web-based front-end interface (Page), allowing users to access all their local files and make UI modifications for a personalized experience.

NEXT STEPS FOR PARCHMENT

  • Parchment recently entered the closed beta phase of development and has many signups. Receiving feedback from potential users will be invaluable to fix bugs and improve features.

  • While Parchment already supports Windows and MacOS, the two most prominent consumer operating systems, future support to additional systems such as iOS are planned to enhance the benefits of a consistent experience across devices.

  • When Parchment is ready for public access, some ease-of-use features may need to be added, including documentation or tutorials so users knows how to get the most out of Parchment.
