Project Description:
Infection is a real threat to the lives of many people around the world. Infection related complications, such as sepsis, accounts for almost 20% of the total global deaths, and with infection detection generally requiring a trip to a hospital or clinic to get any form of results, this is an avenue that is necessary to look into. Our team has decided to utilize silkworm larvae plasma (SLP) as a detection mechanism for bacteria in and around a wound. The SLP reacts with the peptidoglycan in the bacterial cell walls and forms melanin, thus allowing for a distinct color indicator to show the presence of bacteria.
