College of Engineering Unit:
Our text-based scene building program utilizes Unity’s engine and editor to create and display 3D scenes dynamically, using instructions provided in a text file and referencing imported assets. This allows technical users to quickly generate animations to show complex processes, while simultaneously allowing general audiences to freely interact with the animations. It is intended to be primarily used in a civil engineering contexts, where it will allow the developer to visually present the workflow of construction, decreasing miscommunication, saving time, and improving the development cycle.
The program takes user input as a text file, which contains functions and references similar to program files. This file is parsed into instructions to be executed at their designated times. While the text file is being processed, the program looks for keywords that specify things like the function name, reference object, and other parameters. After the text file is read by the program, it will execute each action line by line, stringing them together to create the desired animation.
