College of Engineering Unit:
This project will be focusing on designing and developing an electric aircraft to compete in the Micro Class of the SAE Aero Design International Competition held on April 14-16 in Fort Worth, Texas. The Micro Class requires its competing teams to make trade offs between two conflicting requirements being, carrying the highest payload fraction possible, while simultaneously having the lowest empty weight possible. Within the Micro Class, we are scored by our design report, presentation, and mission performance score. The mission is to is based on the amount of payload weight the aircraft can carry, which includes large or small boxes and a payload plate, and the time it takes to fly the first 300 ft of the course. We also need to be able to take off from a 8 x 4 x 2 foot table , land in 200 ft and are limited to a 36 in wingspan, a 4 cell LiPo battery, and 3 flight attempts.
