College of Engineering Unit:
According to OSU's policy, health insurance is mandatory for all non-resident international students who registered for at least one credit on campus. By default, international students are automatically enrolled and charged for the Navigator health insurance plan provided by PacificSource. Students from different countries may not be familiar with how health insurance and healthcare work in the USA. Many students will find Student Health Services for help; however, SHS cannot cover all specialties or provide specific treatments. Some international students struggle to find off-campus healthcare providers as the information is spread among websites.
This project aims to facilitate international students to find in-network healthcare providers in Oregon. Our all-in-one web application categorizes healthcare providers into three main groups - doctors, pharmacies, and hospitals. Each group has an individual tab that takes care of user input queries and displays the corresponding information. The user only needs to provide a city name and decide the search distance. Our application will fetch data from the MySQL database, then display the healthcare provider information in table forms. Each row in the table contains a single healthcare provider or facility with its name, address, phone number, and distance from a given city. The results of healthcare providers are sorted by the distance in ascending order.
Our application incorporates the autocomplete feature that prompts users with a list of city names based on the characters they type in the city input box. Our application also utilizes the Google Map API to calculate the distance between a specific healthcare facility and a given city name. Users need an in-campus network connection or VPN to OSU to access our application.
