College of Engineering Unit:
Black Cat Engineering has been employed by Lakedale Utility District for the design of the Crestop Well water treatment system. The District desires to address customer complaints of murky and odorous drinking water due to trace amounts of three primary contaminants: iron, manganese, and hydrogen sulfide. While not hazardous, these three contaminants are known to create problems with distribution and aesthetic concerns for customers. Iron and manganese discolor water, accumulate in pipes, and encourage bacterial growth. Hydrogen sulfide concentrations in water produce an unpleasant taste and rotten egg odor. In addition to providing high-quality water, the project must supply enough water to accommodate population growth. Black Cat Engineering has provided designs for a treatment system that will ensure clean and affordable water for a growing community.
