Project Description:

Project

This mobile application will help bar and restaurant owners analyze their beer output. The application was developed with Pour Soul Systems and talks to the digital tap handle system that Pour Soul Systems has developed in order to get real-time data on kegs. This data is represented in various ways on our app to help the user understand where product shrink is caused. Our app aims to help bar owners and managers identify these causes of missed revenue so that they can take appropriate action.

Market

Draft beer is a $50 billion per year industry. Some of the biggest hindrances to maximizing potential profit for the over 600,000 establishments with on-premise beverage sales are attributed to control issues, such as faulty keg hardware, bartender generosity (too many free tasters), errors in product inventory selection, poor pouring technique, and many other factors. These control issues account for 20% of revenue potential. Our mobile application will help Pour Soul Systems aid in giving back most, if not all, of that potential $10 billion dollars a year to bars and restaurants by eliminating the aforementioned control issues. As it is now, there is no way to understand just how much beer is wasted out of any given keg.

Technical Implementation

We have used Google’s Flutter SDK along with the BLoC Pattern to manage events and states within our application. Flutter allows our app to be run on both Android and iOS devices. Our app queries two separate databases established by developers at Pour Soul Systems for user and tap data respectively. Tap data is displayed in various graphs that will help the user identify different causes of shrink. The user will be given collective data for all kegs with the Pour Soul Systems digital tap handle as well as individual respective data for each keg.

Our application will most likely be improved upon after it is handed off to Pour Soul Systems. During this project, the team gained experience in designing and developing a user-centric application for mobile devices from the ground up.
