Project Description:

Right now, about 800 million people in the world are menstruating. What is a common life experience for the female sex, menstruation can come with equally common debilitating symptoms and side effects, with around 80% experiencing menstrual-related pain during any given cycle. Given these statistics, around 680 million people today are experiencing pain. This pain is centralized around the abdomen and lower back and can be mild to severe, with some people experiencing pain for up to eight days. These are considerable circumstances, and no one should have to push through this type of pain for days. Our solution is an improved menthol transdermal patch that is longer lasting, fast-acting, and comfortable.

The main opportunity for our group is to expand on current menstrual pain relief patches to create a holistic, fast-acting, and long-lasting menthol patch. This opportunity arises from the lack of menstrual products for effective pain relief, especially given the number of people that experience that pain. Given this, the primary market for our patch will be individuals who experience painful menstrual cycles, more specifically those who experience chronic abdominal dysmenorrhea (period cramps). In the same light, we believe our patch can be utilized in other, secondary markets. These secondary markets would include individuals who experience any musculoskeletal pain or cramping.
