Project Description:

Dating back to more than 10,000 years ago, hemp is one of the oldest industries on Earth. Despite the current legalities concerning hemp’s counterpart, which is known for its recreational use in certain parts of the world, hemp has several commercial uses in many industries. Some of the many uses for hemp include clothing, textiles, food, paper, bioplastics, biofuels, and hempcrete. Recently, hemp has gained a lot of attention from the community due to the many uses and is expected to reach a $15.26 billion global market size by the year 2027. For this project, the team decided to design an expansion to an existing hemp extraction facility with the consideration of minimizing waste and maximizing profitability. To achieve efficiency in design, the team decided to convert all hemp biomass waste into hempcrete blocks because of the many applications in the construction industry.
