Project Description:

Many children are finding it difficult to adapt to a remote environment, let alone the time management challenges that parents are facing. Our project partner, Ryan Kiste, recognized the need for a tool that helps with this shift to remote education. Our team then concluded that effective and transparent communication between parents, teachers, and students is the foundation of a more productive educational environment. Through the use of Grade.IO, students, teachers and parents will have a faster and more efficient communication method. Grade.IO envisions a remote learning environment where all users can help students in a more intuitive and efficient manner.

Grade.IO’s purpose is to provide full transparency of the daily academic process to parents, students, and teachers, in order to build a productive remote learning environment. This application was developed using tools including, but not limited to, Xcode, Flutter, Swift, Firebase, Firestore, and Asana.

Parents and teachers will have more visibility into how long a student has spent on each homework assignment, and teachers will be provided with the ability to see how much time they spent on each problem in a homework assignment. For example, a teacher may notice that a math assignment, which was supposed to take 30 minutes, actually took the average student two hours to complete. The teacher can redesign this curriculum, and take more time to teach the material, so the students aren’t spending excessive amounts of time on homework.

Parents will also be able to view these metrics to get a detailed understanding of their students progress, and where they might be struggling. This information can be a launching point to plan and engage in meetings with educators, discussing their student’s progress, difficulties and avenues for improvement. By focusing on metrics, Grade.IO allows a transparent educational process for everyone involved. When implemented into a remote learning environment, Grade.IO will improve education for all parties involved.
